Why choose Rishikesh for Yoga Teacher Training?
Rishikesh is situated on the foothills of Himalayas, besides the Ganges River, in India’s northern state of Uttrakhand. It is renowned as the ‘Yoga Capital of the World‘ and Ganges most sacred river in India. This city is considered an alcohol free and vegetarian town and it is surrounded by the forest and hills. It is known as the pilgrimage place and regarded as one of the holiest place. The sages and saints have been in Rishikesh since ancient times to meditate in search of higher knowledge.
Rishikesh is a magnet for spiritual seekers and mother land of Yoga and Meditation. This is why the Beatles came to Rishikesh in 1968 in ‘Chaurasi Kutiya Ashram’ for transcendental meditation. In the evening the supernatural breeze blows down the valley, setting shrine bells ringing. There are so many things to do in Rishikesh like visiting Beatles ashram, white water rafting, jungle safari, camping, ayurvedic cooking & massage, trekking, water fall, visiting temples and ashrams and of course taking a dip in the holy Ganges which is said to completely purify one.
What is Yoga? What is Asana? And what is the difference between Yoga and Asana? Is every Asana suitable for everyone? How should you align the body in Asana? Is there a universal way to correct everybody’s posture? How can you incorporate daily Yoga practice into your busy lifestyle? You will find answers to these and many other similar questions that you may have always wondered about.”

Key nutrients for yoga practitioners
Jiva Yoga Academy offers a delicious and nutritious daily Satvik menu prepared on site for students. All meals are vegetarian and we also cater to vegan diets. Our chefs are passionate about cooking and serving Satvik food.
Satvik food is a concept in Ayurveda and yogic philosophy that emphasizes a pure, clean, and balanced diet. It is believed to promote mental clarity, spiritual awareness, and overall well-being. When undergoing yoga training, incorporating Satvik food into your diet can support your practice and enhance the mind-body connection. Here are some guidelines for Satvik food during yoga training:
1. Fresh and Seasonal Fruits:
- Include a variety of fresh, seasonal fruits in your diet. Opt for fruits such as apples, Mangoes, Pineapple, Papaya, bananas, and citrus fruits. Avoid overly processed or canned fruits.
2. Vegetables:
- Consume a colorful array of vegetables, both raw and cooked. Include leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, root vegetables, and others. Steam or lightly cook vegetables to retain their natural vitality.
3. Whole Grains:
- Choose whole grains like rice, corn, wheat, millet, and oats. These grains provide sustained energy and are rich in fiber and nutrients.
4. Legumes and Pulses:
- Incorporate legumes and pulses like lentils, Soya, chickpeas, and mung beans into your meals. They are excellent sources of plant-based protein.
5. Nuts and Seeds:
- Include a variety of nuts and seeds such as almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds. These provide essential fatty acids and nutrients.
6. Herbs and Spices:
- Use Ayurvedic herbs and spices like turmeric, cumin, coriander, ginger, and fennel. These not only add flavor but also offer various health benefits.

I attended the 200 hour training in October. There were 8 students booked on, and by the end of day 2 we were like a family!
I chose this course as it felt more authentic than others, and I wasn't disappointed.
The accommodation was as described and comfortable, a short distance off the main Tapovan road with jungle and stream as the backdrop. A sanctuary, but close enough to the cafes, shops etc to dip into if you want.
A great mix of teachers, each with their specialty and personality. The timetable was just right - enough down time to absorb the teaching and relax. A really supportive environment. I feel ready to teach, although I will continue to learn.
The food was fantastic, as with most vegetarian Indian food- very carb heavy, which was great for me, but I think we were all cutting back on either rice, Dahl or chappatis by week 3.
I would recommend Jiva to anyone wanting an authentic, all round foundation for either teaching or deeper exploration & understanding of Yoga, in the birthplace of Yoga - Rishikesh.

I had such a nice experience completing my 200hr YTT at Jiva Yoga Academy.
The teachers are all very smart, helpful and kind. We learned about yoga, yogic philosophy, meditation, anatomy, breathing techniques, alignment of the body. The structure of the program is very nice and it’s a very immersive experience. At the end of the course I felt like I had learned a lot, deepened my practice and knowledge.
The staff of the location are very accommodating. It’s outside the busy area of Tapovan (Rishikesh) with a nice view of the mountains, where you can see peacocks and monkeys from the terrace.
The food and chai provided is delicious, enough and there’s a lot of variation. You’ll never be bored of it!
On the days off you can choose what you want to do, some days we did something together with the group, other days you can make your own plans.
I highly recommend coming to Jiva Yoga Academy, I’ll never forget this wonderful experience 🕉️

I have completed my training in Jiva in April 2024. I’m very happy that I chose this school - all the teachers are very competent, experienced, knowledgeable and kind. It will sound a bit cliche but staying in Jiva felt like staying with a family (the kind of family you like to hang out with). I am extremely grateful for the knowledge I gathered and can’t wait to introduce all the things I’ve learned into my daily life. I feel healthier, stronger and happier.
As to organizational matters: everything went very smoothly - the booking, the transfer - I felt safe and supported by the school at all times. The food is amazing - the school has its own chef shopping daily at the local market and cooking 3 fresh meals a day; the rooms are spacious and clean. I can recommend Jiva 100%!!!
Sending lots of love to all the teachers and hoping to come back❤️

My experience with Jiva has been profound.
I wished to reach back into my East-Indian roots after 40+ years of living in various countries, overseas. I currently reside in Australia but have lived in Canada and Norway as well. Having lived in India till my late teens, I knew what to look for in a yoga academy. I also practice yoga. In a time when the Indian modern outlook wishes to resemble the West, Jiva holds tradition firm in upholding Patanjali’s yoga sutras. Yet, it also accommodates Western thought within its curriculum.
My background is varied, ranging from an IT professional to a professional athlete, to a therapist. I left no stone unturned in deep, probing questions that related to anatomy, spirituality (philosophy), yoga asanas, meditation and alignment. The teachers of Jiva met the challenge! Vikash, Sonu and Pritam were amazing.
In addition to being rigorous in the curriculum, Jiva fostered a congenial family environment outside of it, at meals and between classes.
Should you be looking for a school that teaches classical yoga in India, which incorporates Western views, then look no further than Jiva.
