YOGA POSTURES (ASANA)
In the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, you gain in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of both traditional and advanced yoga postures. The training focuses on developing strength, flexibility, and stability to support the safe practice of challenging asanas.
Many ancient yoga postures are designed to cultivate a strong connection between the mind and body, and through consistent practice, you develop a clear understanding of this harmony. With each passing day, awareness deepens and practice becomes more refined.
Our 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh is rooted in the classical traditions of Hatha Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga asana practice.
PRANAYAMA (ANCIENT BREATHING TECHNIQUE)
Breath is the most vital element of human existence. In the yogic tradition, ancient Indian yogis developed Pranayama—classical breathing techniques—to regulate and balance the natural rhythm of the breath. Just as the universe functions in rhythm, Pranayama helps align your personal breath rhythm with the greater cosmological rhythm.
Pranayama is a traditional yogic practice that enhances awareness and supports deeper states of meditation. It is a vital aspect of yoga, strengthening the respiratory system while purifying both the body and mind.
In the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, you will study and practice a wide range of Pranayama techniques, from foundational to advanced variations, including:
Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing)
Ujjayi (psychic or victorious breath)
Shitkari (hissing breath)
Sheetali (cooling breath)
Kapalabhati (frontal brain cleansing breath)
Bhramari (humming bee breath)
Bhastrika (bellows breath)
Suryabheda (vitality-stimulating breath)
This comprehensive Pranayama practice supports physical vitality, mental clarity, and a deeper connection between breath, awareness, and meditation.
RECITATION OF SACRED SOUND (MANTRA CHANTING)
The word Mantra is derived from man (mind or thought) and tra (instrument or vehicle). A mantra is a tool that guides the mind, helping direct thoughts toward a focused state of awareness.
In the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, mantras are practiced to generate subtle vibrations and deepen the connection with universal consciousness. Mantra practice supports concentration, inner harmony, and meditative awareness.
During the classes, you will learn and practice a variety of traditional mantras. Through consistent mantra practice, students cultivate deeper awareness, energetic balance, and a refined meditative experience.
MUDRAS (GESTURES)
Mudras play an important role in deep meditation and subtle energy work. In the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, you will learn a wide range of yogic mudras—from foundational to advanced—designed to refine awareness and support spiritual growth.
Mudras help guide and regulate the flow of energy within the body, enhancing concentration and deepening meditative states. Through consistent practice, they support the awakening of inner awareness and balance.
During the training, you will learn and practice various mudras. This systematic study of mudras supports deeper meditation, energetic alignment, and spiritual awareness.
MEDITATION (DHYANA)
Meditation is the process of calming the mind and turning awareness inward toward self-realization. It is a powerful tool that harmonizes the senses, cultivating inner tranquility and clarity. Through regular practice, meditation supports a deeper understanding of the purpose of one’s existence, while also promoting healthy blood circulation and relaxation of the nervous system.
In the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh, students are introduced to a wide range of meditation techniques designed to enhance concentration, awareness, and inner balance.
This diverse approach to meditation allows students to experience different pathways to stillness, awareness, and transformation.
TEACHING METHODOLOGY
Practicing yoga and teaching yoga are two distinct skills. In the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, we guide students in developing the ability to create a safe, supportive, and conducive learning environment for their future yoga students.
You will learn how to approach and understand individual student needs, helping them work toward their personal goals in yoga. The training also covers how to thoughtfully plan and structure yoga sessions, assess student progress, and recognize what to avoid during classes to ensure safety and effectiveness.
In addition, you will develop the skills needed to build confidence in your students, communicate clearly, and teach with awareness, responsibility, and authenticity.
TEACHING PRACTICE (ADHYAPANAM)
Y
Yoga is rooted in practice—the more consistently you practice, the deeper your clarity and understanding of yoga become. During practice sessions, students are given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in front of fellow trainees and experienced teachers.
These sessions allow you to showcase and refine key aspects of your learning, including posture alignment, asana execution, understanding of yoga philosophy, teaching style, and overall presentation. Constructive feedback from teachers helps strengthen your practice and teaching confidence.
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY (SHARIR VIJNAN)
Injury prevention is a key concern in both practicing and teaching yoga. This anatomy class provides essential knowledge of body structure and alignment to support safe and effective practice. Students gain an understanding of how yoga postures affect the body, including joints, muscles, connective tissues, and major body systems.
The class introduces basic anatomy and physiology relevant to yoga, covering proper alignment, joint function, muscular engagement, breathing mechanics, and the relationship between movement and awareness. This foundational knowledge helps students apply anatomy practically in their yoga practice and teaching.
PHILOSOPHY (YOGA DARSHANA)
Patanjali’s Yoga Darshan forms the philosophical foundation of all authentic yoga traditions. Without understanding the philosophical aspects of yoga, it is difficult to grasp its true purpose. The ultimate objective of yoga is to live with happiness, clarity, and inner peace in all circumstances of life.
In the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, students study the essential philosophical dimensions of yoga, including its core concepts, history, and classical paths—Jnana Yoga, Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Karma Yoga. The training also explores the key differences between Ashtanga Yoga and Hatha Yoga, providing clarity on their principles and practices.
Students gain an in-depth understanding of the seven chakras, their qualities, functions, and methods of activation. The philosophy classes further examine the evolution of modern yoga practices and how traditional teachings have adapted over time.
Through this study, students develop a deeper understanding of life and the universe as experienced through the wisdom of yoga.
YOGA NIDRA (PSYCHIC SLEEP)
Resting the body and mind is a fundamental aspect of yoga. To remain fully energized and balanced, deep and conscious rest is essential, and Yoga Nidra plays a vital role in this process.
Yoga Nidra is a guided relaxation practice performed in Savasana, where the practitioner enters a state between wakefulness and sleep while maintaining conscious awareness. This deep relaxation technique helps restore the nervous system and cultivate a sense of inner wholeness.
The practice of Yoga Nidra is especially beneficial for stress management, improving sleep quality, and supporting overall well-being. In the 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training, Yoga Nidra is taught to all students allowing them to experience and understand its therapeutic and restorative benefits.

I have completed my training in Jiva in April 2024. I’m very happy that I chose this school - all the teachers are very competent, experienced, knowledgeable and kind. I can recommend Jiva 100%!!! Sending lots of love to all the teachers and hoping to come back❤️
I wished to reach back into my East-Indian roots after 40+ years of living in various countries, overseas. I also practice yoga. In a time when the Indian modern outlook wishes to resemble the West, Jiva holds tradition firm in upholding Patanjali’s yoga sutras. The 300 hrs yoga teacher training in Rishikesh offers a comprehensive journey for those looking to deepen their practice and teaching skills.
